CPCAB - Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (PC-L5) Approved

This qualification is designed to give you the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a self-employed counsellor in independent practice. It also equips counsellors to take on a senior counselling role in an organisational context where client assessment, referral and routine evaluation are part of the role.

Pre-course requirements

You must have obtained CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or its equivalent with another Qualification Board

Qualification Structure 

There are 7mandatory units that you will be working from:
1. Work safely, legally and ethically as an independent counsellor
2. Work with complex aspects of the counselling relationship
3. Use theory and research to work with client diversity in independent practice
4. Use a coherent approach to respond to the needs of individual clients
5. Work with self-awareness as an independent practitioner
6. Use theory, research and skills within a coherent framework for independent counselling practice
7. Monitor and maintain professional effectiveness as a counsellor in independent practice

This qualification meets the competencies of SCoPEd Column B and with sufficient practice hours provides you with a route to membership and accreditation with professional associations in counselling approved by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) e.g. BACP, NCPS, ACC.

Completion and progression

CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision (TCSUL6) plus a recommended minimum 450 supervised practice -hours.

Credit transfer to university study such as Open University.

Fees 

Fees: £2490.00.  This includes CPCAB registration . You reserve your place by way of deposit. Once the course has started you can then pay the remaining fees in full, or over 3 terms or 6 months.

Course Dates  

Course Dates: Starting Wednesday 23rd September 2026 for 20 weeks. Ending Wednesday 10th March 2027. This course will be face to face for 18 sessions and 2 online.
